Materials, finishes and how we mark them

Engraving laminate

Often called Traffolyte, engraving laminate is a two- or three-ply plastic sheet with a coloured core revealed when the surface is laser engraved. The result is a mark that cannot be painted over or worn away by normal handling. It is the standard material for valve tags, panel legends and switch labels where high contrast and long life are required. Available in a wide range of colour combinations.

Stainless steel

Grade 316 stainless is the material of choice for identification plates and valve tags in aggressive environments — offshore, chemical plant and food processing areas where corrosion resistance matters most. Marked with a fused ceramic-black laser finish for a permanent, high-contrast result, with no cutting into the surface, so the plate stays flat and easy to clean.

Acrylic

Cast acrylic cuts cleanly and is available in a full colour range for interior signage, panel inserts and branding applications. It is best suited to environments away from heavy abrasion or prolonged UV exposure.

How we mark

Everything is laser marked — we do not use rotary or mechanical engraving. On engraving laminate and acrylic the laser engraves the surface to reveal the core or cut clean detail; on stainless steel we fuse a durable ceramic-black compound to the surface for a permanent, high-contrast mark without cutting into the metal.

Laser marking is fast, highly repeatable and ideal for fine detail and variable data such as sequential numbers, asset tags and barcodes. All engraved labels are produced to your specification and the conventions you work to — we discuss the best approach for your application when we quote.
